Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra
Redwood Coast Music Festival 2019 Performing Artist
At Redwood Coast Music Festival Anthony Paule's Soul Orchestra will be appearing with Soul Singer extraordinaire Wee Willie Walker.
Walker is the 2018 Living Blues Critics award winner for Best Blues Singer and their collaboration led to FIVE BMA nominations in 2018 for their new CD, After A While.
Anthony Paule has been a mainstay of the Bay Area music scene for many years touring and recording with luminaries such as Boz Scaggs, Charlie Musselwhite, Johnny Adams, Maria Muldaur, The Johnny Nocturne Band, Norton Buffalo, John Nemeth, and others.
Anthony has released two solo CDs, Big Guitar, and Hiding In Plain Sight. For his most recent releases he has teamed up with Philadelphia based soul singer Frank Bey. Their first CD, You Don’t Know Nothing, is a live recording done at Biscuits & Blues nightclub in downtown San Francisco. The second release with Frank is Soul For Your Blues which is a studio recording consisting of 13 tracks, 8 originals and 5 interesting covers from diverse sources such as John Prine, Percy Mayfield and Wynonie Harris.
The idea of creating an old school soul revue was born in Italy at the Porretta Soul Festival. In 2015 Paule had the honor of being asked to be the house band at the 28th edition of this legendary festival. What this meant was writing charts for 60 tunes, learning the material to back most of the singers, and then after a brief rehearsal, hitting the stage with their A game!
The task was immense, but the band rose to the occasion and was asked to return in 2016, 2017 and 2018. The experience was inspirational and empowering, and the result is the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra.
A Soulman’s Soulman, unrivaled singer Wee Willie Walker was born
in Mississippi, raised in Memphis, and currently resides in Minnesota, where he has persevered in the vibrant Minneapolis music scene. Walker can often be found around the greater St Paul/Minneapolis area, performing with his group, We-R.
In 1967, friends in Memphis, introduced Willie to the outstanding R&B, and Soul label, GoldWax Records. This is when and where he began recording secular music. GoldWax later leased four of his recorded sides, for commercial release on the Chicago-based Checker Records. Willie’s release on Little Village Foundation records, If Nothing Ever Changes, earned him three Blues Music Award nominations; and put him on Living Blues Magazine’s Editor’s Top 10 Picks for 2015. In 2016, Willie won Living Blues Magazine's Award for Best Comeback Album and Soul Blues Album. Walker’s voice is nothing shy of a soul-defining epiphany. You can hear passion, peace, love and pain in each spellbinding phrase. With considerable beauty, depth and richness, Willie subtly coaxes the listener’s ear through a range of heart-melting emotions one usually feels only from a lover. When you listen to Willie sing, it’s obvious who his influences are Sam Cooke, Little Willie John, Otis Redding, and James Carr. Can it get any better than this? No!
